The Best Naturopaths and Holistic Health Practitioners in Adelaide
Six Adelaide naturopaths and integrative-medicine clinics chosen on practitioner credentials, evidence-based positioning and review consistency. We do not list practitioners who claim to treat conditions outside the evidence base for their modality. Compiled from the Australian Natural Therapists Association, Oneflare, Natural Therapy Pages and direct clinic research.
Position #1 is the featured slot, a paid placement that is openly labelled in the entry itself. Featured businesses still have to clear our published editorial bar to be on the list at all. Paying does not bypass quality. All other positions are editorial selections presented in no particular order, these are recommendations rather than a strict ranking. We re-walk every list every six months.
Naturopath, integrative doctor or functional medicine
These are not the same thing and the difference affects both cost and what they can safely treat. A naturopath holds a Bachelor of Health Science and works with herbal medicine, nutrition and lifestyle, but is not a medical doctor. An integrative-medicine doctor is an AHPRA-registered doctor who adds evidence-based complementary therapies to conventional care. Functional medicine is a doctor-led, test-heavy approach aimed at root causes of chronic symptoms.
The honest framing matters: these practitioners can complement medical care, not replace it for serious conditions. Choose the level that fits your situation, and keep your GP in the loop for anything significant.
What it costs, and what insurance does not cover
An initial naturopathic consult, usually 60 to 90 minutes, runs roughly $180 to $280 out of pocket, with follow-ups at $90 to $160. Functional pathology testing such as microbiome, DNA or hair-mineral panels adds anywhere from $150 to $650 each, and those are not Medicare-rebated.
Naturopathy is not covered by Medicare. Some private funds rebate consults under extras cover, typically with a $200 to $500 annual limit, so check with your fund before booking. Go in knowing the testing is the part that adds up.
Check the credentials and the scope
A practitioner worth seeing states their qualification plainly: a Bachelor of Health Science in naturopathy, and membership of a professional body such as ANTA or NHAA. A clear scope-of-practice statement on their site is a good sign. This list deliberately excludes anyone who claims to treat or cure conditions outside the evidence base for their modality.
That exclusion is the real safety line. Any practitioner promising to cure a serious disease, or telling you to stop conventional treatment, is a red flag, not a maverick. Walk away from that conversation.
When deeper testing is actually worth it
If you have multi-system chronic symptoms and have not found clear answers through conventional medicine, the test-driven functional approach can genuinely help map what is going on. That is what it is built for, and it justifies its higher cost in those cases.
For a single straightforward concern, a standard naturopathic consult is usually enough and a lot cheaper. Match the depth of the approach to the complexity of the problem rather than starting with the most expensive option by default.

Frequently asked
What is the difference between a naturopath and an integrative-medicine doctor?+
An integrative-medicine doctor is a registered medical doctor (AHPRA-registered MBBS) who incorporates evidence-based complementary therapies alongside conventional medicine. A naturopath holds a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy), they are not medical doctors but are trained in herbal medicine, nutritional medicine and lifestyle interventions. They can complement but not replace medical care for serious conditions.
Are naturopath consults covered by Medicare or private health?+
Naturopathy is not Medicare-rebated. Some private health funds (BUPA, HCF, AHM) cover naturopathic consults under extras cover, typically with annual limits of $200-500. Confirm with your fund before booking.
How much does an Adelaide naturopath consult cost?+
Initial consultations (60-90 minutes) typically run $180-280 out of pocket. Follow-up consultations (30-45 minutes) are $90-160. Functional pathology testing (DNA, microbiome, hair mineral analysis) adds $150-650 per test panel, these are out-of-pocket costs not covered by Medicare or most health funds.
What is functional medicine and how does it differ from naturopathy?+
Functional medicine is a doctor-led, systems-biology approach that uses extensive testing to identify root causes of chronic symptoms. It uses many of the same tools as naturopathy (nutritional medicine, herbal medicine, lifestyle) but with a medical doctor in the lead role and heavier reliance on advanced lab testing. Generally more expensive than naturopathy alone but also more medically integrated.
