The Best Removalists in Adelaide

Eight Adelaide removalists covering house moves, interstate runs, pianos, pool tables and spas. Every pick holds a Google rating of 4.7 or better across more than 100 reviews, runs its own trucks under its own name and explains on its own website how it quotes. Where a business publishes its rates we list them exactly as published.

Moves in Adelaide tend to be pinned to a date you do not control, a lease ending or a settlement. That is why the booking window matters as much as the price. Lock in a removalist once the date is firm and give them a backup time in case settlement runs late, because waiting time on an hourly job is still billable.

Removalists here quote in two ways. Hourly crews charge for time on the job, so read the fine print. HF Removals, for instance, publishes rates from $138 an hour for a small truck with two movers to $158 for a 16 tonne truck, with a 3-hour minimum and a separate 1-hour call-out fee. Removals R Us lists $95 to $144 an hour including GST and states a $0 call-out fee and $0 stair charges. Others, like Complete Removals, prefer to plan the move on site and give a fixed price. Rates change, so confirm yours in writing.

Heavy and awkward items are where a general crew can come unstuck. DC Piano Moves does pianos only and asks about stairs and steep driveways before quoting. Tomas Transport lists spas, swim spas, pool tables and baby grands up stairs as its specialty. Tell every removalist about stairs and tight access, since those decide the crew size.

One more thing to ask about is insurance. Public liability covers damage a removalist causes to other people's property. It is not the same as goods in transit cover for your own belongings in the truck, so ask which one they mean. For this list I looked for a Google rating of 4.7 or better from at least 100 reviews when I checked on 10 October 2026. Each business also needed its own website explaining how it quotes and a listing that is still trading. I left out quote brokers, comparison sites and national networks. No business paid to appear. The eight removalists follow.

Hourly or fixed: what the clock actually covers

Adelaide removalists quote in two ways. Hourly crews charge for time on the job. The fine print matters more than the headline rate. HF Removals publishes a clear example: its local rates run from $138 an hour for a small truck with two movers to $158 an hour for its 16 tonne truck, billed in 30 minute increments, with a 3-hour minimum plus a separate 1-hour call-out fee that covers fuel and basic transport. HF also lists loading, travel between addresses and unloading as the things that drive your time. Removals R Us takes the opposite line on extras and states a $0 call-out fee and $0 stair charges.

Fixed quotes trade flexibility for certainty. Complete Removals plans most jobs on site first and then gives a set price, though it will take some jobs hourly. DC Piano Moves only quotes set prices. Whichever way you go, ask four things before you book: is there a minimum, does the clock start at the depot or at your door, is travel back to base charged and are blankets, wraps and straps included or extra.

Transit insurance is not the same as public liability

Public liability covers a removalist if they damage someone else's property or hurt someone. It is not cover for your own belongings while they sit in the truck. That is what goods in transit insurance is for, so ask which one a removalist means when they say they are insured. HF Removals advertises up to $1,000,000 in public liability and transit insurance with policy terms applying. AtoB Furniture Removals says it includes a minimum of $100,000 cover free of charge, subject to conditions. Aussiemove sells its own goods in transit and storage insurance with several levels of cover.

Read the exclusions before moving day. Removals R Us publishes its insurance policy, which excludes items you packed yourself and valuables like jewellery or documents unless declared. It also asks for damage to be reported within 24 hours of delivery. Rules like these are common, so photograph anything valuable before it goes on the truck and check boxes quickly at the other end.

Stairs, pianos, pool tables and spas

Heavy and awkward items are where a general crew can come unstuck. A piano needs the right trolleys, straps and enough people for the stairs. DC Piano Moves asks about stairs and steep driveways before it quotes and will look at photos or visit to check access. Tomas Transport lists baby grands up and down stairs, pool tables and swim spas as specialist work. AtoB Furniture Removals moves pianos from small uprights through to concert grands.

Tell every removalist about stairs, lifts, parking and the distance from the truck to the front door when you ask for a price. If any of these come up for the first time on moving day, an hourly job runs longer and a fixed quote can be revised. For a valuable piano it is worth booking a piano specialist separately from the rest of the house.

Booking around lease ends and settlement days

Most moves are tied to a date you do not control, like a lease ending or a property settling. Lock in the removalist as soon as that date is firm. Give them a backup time in case settlement runs late. Ask what happens if the keys are not released on time, because waiting time on an hourly job is still billable.

If your date moves at short notice, some crews can help. HF Removals lists same-day and urgent moves and says it is open 24 hours. Removals R Us offers a same-day service without extra booking fees. Weekend and public holiday rates are not published by most removalists, so ask for them in writing if your move falls on one.

Frequently asked

How much does a removalist cost per hour in Adelaide?

Among the removalists on this list that publish rates, Removals R Us lists $95 to $144 an hour including GST depending on truck size. HF Removals lists $138 to $158 an hour for two movers plus $198 an hour for three. HF adds a 3-hour minimum and a 1-hour call-out fee. Rates change, so treat these as a guide and get your own quote.

Should I choose an hourly rate or a fixed quote?

An hourly rate can work out cheaper for a small, well-organised move with easy access. A fixed quote protects you when there are stairs, a long carry or a lot of furniture to dismantle. Either way, ask what the minimum is and whether travel time is charged.

Is my furniture insured during the move?

Only if the removalist carries goods in transit insurance or you buy it. Public liability insurance covers damage the removalist does to other people's property, not your belongings. Ask which cover applies, what the limit is and what is excluded, such as boxes you packed yourself.

Can a normal removalist move my piano?

Many can, but ask first. Pianos need specialist trolleys and enough people for stairs. Some removalists price them separately. DC Piano Moves specialises in pianos and gives set quotes, while AtoB Furniture Removals and Tomas Transport both list piano moves among their services.

How do interstate moves from Adelaide get priced?

Interstate moves are usually priced by volume rather than by the hour. HF Removals publishes reference rates per cubic metre for routes to Melbourne, Sydney, Queensland and Perth, with the final price depending on your inventory and access. Get a written inventory-based quote before you commit.
